Head of Clinical Governance | ADHD & Autism Services

Head of Clinical Governance opportunity across ADHD and autism services in England, paying £90,000 to £110,000 per annum. This permanent, full-time role combines clinical governance, quality improvement and service development, with remote working and regular service-site travel.

Build a governance function that turns clinical standards into safer ADHD and autism care, not just another set of policies.

Why this role exists

Working closely with the Medical Director and operational leadership, you will establish clear standards across assessment, treatment and ongoing support. The remit is to turn policy into practical improvements for clinicians and patients, with clear accountability for quality, safety and learning. You will also help services respond as regulatory expectations and commissioning arrangements evolve, without allowing improved access to come at the expense of clinical standards.

What the first twelve months look like

The focus is a practical governance framework with clear accountability, a meaningful audit programme and quality reporting that gives senior leadership useful assurance. Incident, complaint and patient-feedback reviews should lead to implemented improvements. Clinician onboarding, competency checks and supervision arrangements should support consistent practice across ADHD and autism pathways. The opportunity is to build a function that directly improves patient care.

What you'll own

  • Lead the governance framework across ADHD and autism pathways, with clear accountability for quality, safety and improvement.
  • Strengthen CQC readiness, maintain evidence of effective practice and prepare services for applicable regulatory changes.
  • Oversee clinical audit across assessment quality, documentation, consent, safeguarding and continuity of care.
  • Work with clinical leaders to review prescribing and medication-monitoring governance within their professional responsibilities.
  • Lead learning from incidents, complaints and patient feedback, ensuring agreed improvements are implemented.
  • Develop meaningful quality dashboards and provide clear assurance to senior leadership.
  • Support clinician onboarding, competency checks, supervision and continuing professional development.
  • Work with operational teams to improve access while protecting clinical standards.

What we need to see

  • Senior experience in clinical governance, quality or patient safety within healthcare.
  • Direct experience of ADHD, autism or neurodevelopmental pathways.
  • Practical knowledge of CQC requirements and experience preparing services for registration or inspection.
  • A track record of delivering clinical audit and measurable service improvement.
  • Confidence working with multidisciplinary clinicians, operational leaders and senior stakeholders.
  • The judgement to challenge unsafe practice and the ability to bring people with you.
  • A relevant clinical qualification and professional registration would be advantageous. Experienced non-clinical governance leaders with strong neurodevelopmental service knowledge will also be considered. Prescribing or diagnostic authority is not required.
