PBS Practitioner

We are recruiting a PBS Practitioner for a specialist children's residential care provider across the West Midlands. In this role, you will perform functional behaviour assessments, design individualised PBS plans, and coach care staff directly in residential settings. The position bridges hands-on clinical assessment and workforce development, driving measurable improvements in quality of life and placement stability for young people with complex needs.

Lead Positive Behaviour Support across young people's residential services, embedding evidence-based strategies that reduce restrictive practices while receiving structured supervision toward UKBA certification.

Why this role exists

To support young people with complex autism, learning disabilities, and severe behaviours of concern, this provider is expanding its regional clinical provision. The PBS Practitioner role exists to embed proactive, values-based support directly within residential homes. By equipping frontline staff with practical behavioural skills, the organisation reduces reliance on restrictive interventions, minimises placement breakdowns, and meets increasingly complex regulatory and commissioning standards across the Midlands.

What the first twelve months look like

In months 1 to 3, you will complete initial functional assessments and establish baseline PBS plans for high-priority residential placements across the West Midlands. By month 6, you will roll out structured PBS coaching and debriefing frameworks for frontline care teams, ensuring consistent plan execution. By month 12, you will demonstrate a measurable reduction in restrictive interventions and behaviours of concern across your caseload, presenting outcomes to internal leadership and local commissioning partners.

What you'll own

  • Conduct comprehensive functional behaviour assessments to identify environmental triggers, skill gaps, and underlying causes of behaviour.
  • Formulate, evaluate, and update person-centred Positive Behaviour Support plans for young people in residential settings.
  • Design and implement functional communication and emotional regulation skill-building programmes for residents.
  • Deliver practical on-the-floor coaching, mentoring, and formal training modules to residential care staff.
  • Collate and analyse behavioural data to evaluate plan effectiveness and make data-driven clinical adjustments.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary reviews with internal clinical leads, care home managers, social workers, and families.

What we need to see

  • MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), or a closely related clinical discipline.
  • Proven experience conducting functional assessments and writing PBS plans for children or young people with complex needs.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering direct coaching and training to frontline residential care teams.
  • Full UK driving licence with willingness to undertake regular regional travel across the West and South Midlands.
  • UK-SBA or BCBA accreditation is highly desirable.
